Sant’Antimo Abbey

About 10 km from Montalcino, in the hamlet of Castelnuovo dell’Abate stands this monastic complex completely surrounded by greenery. One of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Tuscany and throughout Italy, whose origins date back to the time of Charlemagne. The abbey has been inhabited since 781 AD. by Benedictine monks who are dedicated to the cultivation of lavender, the production of tea, honey and olive oil and the teaching of Gregorian chant.

Here you will find concerts and Gregorian chant courses, workshops on monastic medicine techniques and courses in writing and making icons.

Hospitality is one of the values that has always characterized the abbey of Sant’Antimo, inhabited over the centuries by Benedictine monks. The abbey is the ideal place to organize days of spiritual retreat for groups of young people and families who can have lunch in the San Benedetto and Santa Scolastica rooms or outdoors in the equipped area adjacent to them. Groups can also take advantage of the self-managed kitchen.

Sant’Antimo Abbey

The monastic guesthouse of the abbey, located in the village of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, can accommodate individuals or small groups who wish to organize spiritual retreats of several days or simply spend some time in the peace and silence of this place. The guesthouse has 10 double rooms, spread over two floors, equipped with sink and with shared toilets. Each bed has a blanket and pillow. The guesthouse is not accessible to disabled people.

We absolutely recommend a visit inside the church: look at the altar with its imposing colonnade, the Carolingian chapel, the naves filled with natural light that truly give a sense of absolute serenity.

A place of meditation, to be contemplated and lived slowly, without haste.
